From 1981 until 2009 Betty Strauss worked as a Licensed Realtor with a Broker’s License.  Betty says that when you are showing property you never know who is getting into the car with you.

For 32 of the 40 years that John and Betty Strauss were married, Betty was a Navy Wife, travelling with and supporting her husband who served  in Vietnam, Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.  John E. Strauss ultimately achieved the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer, attached to the Operations Staff of the Navy Surgeon General at the Pentagon in Washington, D. C.

During their 40 years of marriage John and Betty raised their children, enjoyed their grandchildren, and shared their passion for firearms competitions, as well as instruction and training in the safe and effective use of firearms.

Working as a team, Betty and John were instrumental in formulating and advancing the availability of Educational  Programs in the New River Valley Community and beyond to passionate gun owners.

While John was away performing his duties for the United States Navy, Betty Strauss took care of the household, raised the children, cared for the farm animals, and managed the family responsibilities as a Career Navy Wife.

Betty Strauss successfully completed several courses at the prestigious Front Sight Firearms Training Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada, including:

Her 32 years as a Navy Wife (which is said to be the toughest job in the Navy), perhaps helped Betty blaze the trail for women breaking into the field of Shooting Sports.  Spending a great deal of time in rural areas raising their children, taking care of their homes and farms, and keeping the home fires burning while John was away with the Navy necessitated Betty’s independence and self-reliance.  She forged a path for all women to follow in the male dominated gun community.

If you are interested in acquiring a Concealed Handgun Permit, contact Betty Strauss to get the proper education, training, experience, and credentials necessary to safely and effectively learn to use a handgun for personal defense both inside and outside your home.

If you are a woman and would like to attend basic introductory courses such as the NRA First Step Course, NRA Basic Pistol Course, NRA Personal Protection In the Home Course, and basic gun safety courses with range experience, Betty will form classes just for women.

Aspiring female NRA Certified Instructors can contact Betty Strauss to request NRA Certified Instructors Courses taught by a woman, and attended only by women.
